Her mother, Sevanti Mangeshkar was a Gujarati woman who had been the second wife of Deenanath. As for siblings, Lata was the eldest of five siblings followed by Meena, Asha, Usha, and Hridaynath.

Deenanath passed away in 1942 at the age of 80. At that time, Lata was just 13 years old.
No success is easy to achieve, but Lata Ji had to face several challenges along the way. Many musicians initially refused her because they thought she couldn't sing shrill enough--but then Lata Ji started working on the strength of her passion and talent & became the most famous female playback singer in India.
Lata Mangeshkar's father had passed away when she was being groomed by Master Vinayak, owner of Navayuga Chitrapat Movie Company. He assisted the Mangeshkar family and then offered Lata Ji's first song before her Hindi career started. Her song "Naachu Ya Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari" wasn't put in the final cut for an upcoming Marathi film, but her first Hindi song, "Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal Le Tu," greatly helped her chances of success.
