Most Recent Housing Initiative: Abua Awas Yojana (AAY)
The Abua Awas Yojana (AAY) is one of the most ambitious housing projects launched by the Government of Jharkhand to provide permanent homes to the needy and homeless families across the state. With a total investment of around ?16,320 crore, the project aims to construct nearly 8 lakh houses by the year 2026.
Under this initiative, beneficiaries will receive three-room permanent houses with a kitchen and bathroom, covering approximately 31 square meters. The scheme focuses on uplifting economically weaker sections, particularly PVTGs (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups), bonded labourers, and families living in kutcha houses.
The rollout is planned in phases — about 2 lakh houses in 2023-24, 3.5 lakh in 2024-25, and the remaining 2.5 lakh in 2025-26. Apart from housing construction, the scheme also links beneficiaries with MGNREGA employment opportunities and ensures basic amenities such as electricity, water supply, and sanitation facilities.
