Bakreswar Development Authority is a newly-appointed organization established by the state government. It was created by splitting the Bakreswar Planning Area with Notification No. 939-T&CP/C-2/1P-05/2016, dated 1 June 2016, and slightly enlarging its area through inclusion of Bakreswar's subdivided property in the original Bakreswar Planning Area pursuant to Clause (3) of Section 9 of West Bengal T&CP Act, 1979.
The Bakreswar Development Authority was created to maintain the geographical continuity of various parts of the area by including them in Dubrajpur block, Gohaliara GP, Laxminarayanpur GP, and Hetempur GP. The total area covered is 57.94 sq km.
