Recent Housing Scheme: PMAY–Urban Housing Scheme (2025)
The Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) recently launched its latest initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY–U) to provide affordable housing for the citizens of Varanasi. In August 2025, VDA conducted a transparent lottery system to allocate 82 newly constructed houses in the Harhua and Kurhua areas to eligible beneficiaries. The event saw participation from more than 640 applicants, reflecting the rising demand for affordable housing in the holy city.
Earlier, in June 2025, VDA also handed over 608 high-tech housing units under the same scheme, offering residents access to modern amenities such as solar-powered lighting, sewage treatment systems, landscaped parks, playgrounds, and fitness spaces. These projects are part of VDA’s larger vision to combine traditional heritage with smart and sustainable urban living.
The main objective of this scheme is to ensure “Housing for All” by providing low-cost homes to economically weaker sections and low-income families while maintaining modern standards of construction and quality infrastructure.
About Varanasi Development Authority (VDA)

The authority plays a crucial role in developing residential colonies, commercial complexes, roads, parks, and public infrastructure while preserving the city’s ancient identity. It works to balance the spiritual heritage of Kashi with modern urban development through systematic planning and housing schemes that benefit all income groups.
