Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA)
Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA) is a legal successor to the West Bengal Town & Country Planning Act of 1979. In its 40 years of existence, there has been a significant amount of developmental activity undertaken by ADDA and other urban and rural local bodies.
The development projects ADDA has carried out so far included construction of buildings and land use control. The area under its jurisdiction is best known as Asansol Durgapur Planning Area.
Asansol Durgapur Planning Area shares the Western edge with Jharkhand, the Southern boundary with Bankura District, Eastern boundary with Purulia District and Northeastern boundary with Paschim Bardhaman district. Geographical area of 1603 Sq.Km in size comprises 2 Municipal Corporations, 3 Municipalities and 8 CD Blocks.

Asansol Durgapur Planning Area is predominantly an urban area due to coal mining being present here and thus large industrial establishments are concentrated within its boundaries. More than 77% of the total population (2 million) residing in this planning area is urban as per 2011 census. Interestingly about 88% of this district's urban population lives within ADPA's boundaries as per 2011 census report for West Bengal.
