Recent Housing Scheme by Sikkim Housing & Development Board
The Sikkim Urban Garib Awas Yojana (SUGAY) is the most recent housing initiative under the guidance of the Sikkim Housing & Development Board (SH&DB). Launched as part of the State Government’s commitment to provide affordable urban housing, the scheme targets Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low-Income Group (LIG) families in Sikkim’s statutory towns.
Phase I (2021–2025) of SUGAY includes the construction of 502 individual houses (each approximately 678.50 sq. ft.) and 270 social housing flats (each approximately 688 sq. ft.) across the seven statutory towns of the state. The initiative is part of Sikkim’s broader vision to become a ‘kutcha house free’ state by 2027, ensuring that all urban residents have safe, durable, and well planned housing.
The scheme also emphasizes modern infrastructure including roads, drainage, water supply, and electricity, along with community spaces for residents. By implementing this scheme, SH&DB aims to improve the quality of urban life, reduce housing insecurity, and promote inclusive and sustainable urban development.
About Sikkim Housing & Development Board (SH&DB)

The board is responsible for planning, designing, and executing residential housing projects, including affordable housing for the urban poor, middle-income groups, and special community housing projects.
